101 FM (callsign 4CBL) is a community radio station broadcasting from Logan City, Queensland, with regular transmissions starting from November 1988.[3] Their programs are based around two genres, easy listening and country music, though the programs vary, including jazz, big band and light classics. The stations transmitter is situated at Springwood and their coverage area includes the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast.[4]
One of the most popular programs is "Ted's Memories" with Ted Thirkill hosting three hours of "the best of the 50s 60s &70s every Saturday morning 11am till 2pm
Another program with a rapidly growing listenership is "The Sports Lounge" hosted by Karen Mitchell, Wednesday nights between 8 and 9 p.m. Karen is joined each week by her panel of alleged local experts: the legend, Mark Tookey, Robert "Blanchy" Blanch and the saintly Jeff Leeming. The show also air's guests which include members of local sports teams and clubs trying to lift the profile of their particular sports and to announce upcoming events.
Karen and the panel do a weekly update of the "Lounges" NRL tipping competition and finish off with a section called "Looking out the window" which encourages comment and analysis of current sporting stories from around the world.
As part of the programs community ties, the "Big Red Sports Lounge" an actual red three seater lounge supplied by IKEA travels around to local sporting events and is placed on the halfway mark for special guests and phone in winners who are fed and watered by the hosting clubs.
